We began today by completing some warm up problems solving systems using elimination and substitution. We then answered a systems of equations problem IN CONTEXT. We'll be doing one of these types of problems every day this week, so if you didn't get today's problem, you'll have plenty of opportunity for more practice: Finally, we played a "row game." If you did not finish your part of the row game, make sure you have it finished for tomorrow. A blank copy is embedded below: Posted below is the answer key to the substitution homework that was due today. If you would like additional practice with solving systems of equations by substitution or elimination, here are some resources:
In addition, if you need a blank copy of the Elimination Practice homework, here it is: Today we reviewed how to solve a system of equations by graphing - either by hand or with the TI-83/84 calculator. Using the calculator is a great way to check your work, but you'll need to show any graphing by hand. Tomorrow we'll practice solving by substitution and elimination. First, we filled in part of our foldable: Then, we created a pocket for page 29 where we'll sort and store 18 total examples of solving systems by graphing, by substitution, and by elimination. These will be a great study tool for you! The homework (which we started in class) is to solve six systems of equations by graphing. This is the blue sheet that you were given in class. Remember, if the problem on the front has one solution, the problem directly on the back of it will also have one solution, same with no solution and infinite solutions. Of the six problems you were given, two are consistent and independent, two are consistent and dependent, and two are inconsistent. If you've misplaced your homework, here's an additional blank copy below: After finishing up the Chapter 1 test, we began completing our Systems of Equations foldable. We'll be reviewing three methods of solving systems of equations in two variables: graphing, substitution, and elimination. We were (mostly) able to get through the basics today: Let's not talk about how much I hate the printer here in the math office at Poly. Hate's a strong word, guys. A word that I mean wholeheartedly.
The Chapter 1 Test was today. You will have 20 additional minutes tomorrow to finish up.
The topics for tomorrow's Chapter 1 test are:
Today we finished our short notes on graphing linear inequalities. A photo of the notes is below, and these notes go on page 26 of your ISN: We then spent a bunch of time just practicing. The worksheet and the answer key can be found here. If you didn't finish, you should probably go ahead and do all the problems for practice. Then, attach this worksheet to page 25 of your ISN. We'll review all of Chapter 1 tomorrow, and then you have your first Chapter TEST on Thursday.
Today you took a quiz on Piecewise Functions. You'll get it back tomorrow!
I only saw period 2 and period 8 today (shout out to period 4! I missed you guys!), and we just continued reviewing and practicing with piecewise functions. I've created a set of flashcards for you to practice with that are posted below. You may want to try the flashcards both ways - graph first and you write the equations, and equations first and you plot the graphs. Have a wonderful weekend!
